The Maine Legislature voted late Thursday night to override Governor LePage’s veto of a sweeping energy bill after amending a related bill, L.D. 1472 which makes offshore wind power eligible for loans from the Finance Authority of Maine. An amendment that was included during the legislative session is an effort to open opportunities for the University of Maine’s DeepCWind project to submit a proposal for a long term power purchase contract through the Maine Public Utilities Commission. It is uncertain what kind of effect this many have on the Statoil project and their former contract with the Public Utilities Commission. The original Ocean Energy Act of 2009 intended for multiple technologies to be developed in Maine. MOWII is working with other parties in the state on efforts to allow all offshore wind projects to move forward.
